fifth week

· Transferred to a new department, which is the pembinaan gang

· Followed the cable gang(jointer) and learnt about cabling in TNB

· See how they did set through for underground cable at a PAT

· A 120 mm PILC is joint with a new cable which is XLPE

· 120 mm PILC cable is able to carry about 200 A for 11kV and 230kV for LV

· PILC is Paper Insulated Lead Sheathed. So, that is the layer inside the cable. It has 3 conductors inside. The layers are perm shield, EP insulation, semicon, flat straps and jackets.

· XLPE is cross-linked polyethylene.

· For HT transmission, an ABC cable is used. It has only one conductor in one cable

· For joint ABC cable, usually they take around 2 – 3 hours to complete the joint.

· ABC cable size 3×16+25 means there are 16kVA for red, yellow and blue cables and 25kVA for neutral. It will supply approximately 80 A to houses.

· Termination – did to join the LV cable to the HT.

· The LV cable from feeder pillar must be connected to HT

· Size of the LV cable is 185, and it can carry a maximum fuse amp about 200 A for both PILC and XLPE.

· Shrinking operation is done using a quiet yellow tipped blue gas flame and the flame is moved continuously in brush-like motion.

· Scorching of the sleeves and other heat shrinkable parts must be avoided. If not, water can flow into the cables.

· Cable must be strip first to do the termination.

· There are outer sheath, copper tape armor, steel wire armor, inner sheath, insulator and the inner part is the conductor. The sealant (pelekat) is used to taped the earthing braid.
